State Minister Opens New Champion HQ

20/02/09 - Australia’s premier compressed-air specialist, Champion Compressors, has officially unveiled its new headquarters and manufacturing facility in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburb of Dandenong. At a ceremony held today at the new state-of-the-art facility, Victoria’s Minister for Industry and Trade, Martin Pakula, presented Champion Compressors with a commemorative plaque, recognising this milestone and the company’s ongoing commitment to Victoria’s vitally important manufacturing sector.

Exploring the company’s recipe for success, Mr Pakula said that Champion Compressors had demonstrated how local manufacturers could succeed in spite of challenging global conditions. “This new investment is a vote of confidence in the future of manufacturing in Victoria and represents another milestone in the extraordinary growth of this innovative company,” he said. “Champion has built on its niche expertise in catering for the harsh environments encountered in Australia to achieve domestic leadership and expand into global markets. At the same time, the company has maintained its focus on quality, investing heavily in R&D and introducing state of the art industrial processes and practices, as exemplified by this new facility.”

According to Champion Compressors Managing Director, Wayne St Baker, the plaudit from the Victorian State Minister was testament to Champion’s industry-leading position. “Advanced manufacturing facilities go some way to realising manufacturing success--both for local and export markets,” he said. “The extra capacity provided by our new facility

enables Champion to build on its 30 years of experience in designing and manufacturing tailored compressed-air solutions. This level of recognition from the State Government is truly a great honour.”
Attendees--including guest dignitaries, key customers, industry partners, staff and media--were treated to a tour of the expansive new site, following the official opening presentation from Mr Pakula. A team of Champion Compressors technical experts were also on hand to provide guests with insight into the current and future directions of Champion’s air compressor solution-set. A last-minute change to the program saw Champion Compressors conduct a collection for the victims of the devastating Victorian bush fires and pledge to match all donations dollar for dollar.

Mr Pakula said the State Government recognised the central importance of manufacturing to the economy and was committed to helping local businesses follow the lead of companies like Champion Compressors and respond successfully to current challenges.

The move to new headquarters sees Champion triple its manufacturing capacity, increase its technical support office space three-fold, as well as quadruple its loading and parking facilities. With its new business/manufacturing facility complementing its expansive range of products and spare parts, Champion Compressors will continue to provide the Australian and global industrial sector with premium access to the company’s compressed-air solutions.

Champion Compressors’ new headquarters is located at 324 to 332 Frankston Road, Dandenong.
