Oman, Germany - Integrated management for water resources

Oman (Muscat) - The second workshop on the concept of integrated management for water resources in the Sultanate, organized by the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources in collaboration with Dresden University in Germany was held at Safeer Plaza Hotel today under the auspices of Eng. Ali bin Mohammed al Abri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Reroutes for Water Affairs.

The three-day workshop evaluates the training needs for participants at the project on the integrated management of water resources, prepare detailed criteria on the project needs and identify the follow up mechanism for the implementation of the recommendations of the study. It will also discuss handing over the project to the Ministry after completing it. The workshop covered five working papers today.

The first working paper on the integrated water management and its importance in developing the future plans and projects for water resources development in the Sultanate. The second working paper on the reality and future of water resources for agriculture in the Al Batinah Region.

The third by the German university on the outcome of the study conducted by Dresden University of Germany on the Al Batinah region through mathematical models. The fourth working paper by the GM of Al Tawoos Group on the changes and impediments of modern agriculture in the Al Batinah Region. The fifth by the Dresden University of Germany on evaluating the training needs and building the capacities of the Omani side.

The workshop is an important opportunity to review the different experiences, exchange views among participants, present visions and constructive views and review the progress made in the current cooperation scheme with Dresden University in Germany which will enhance integrated management for water resources in the Sultanate.

The workshop will also cover a number of working papers on the modern technologies, techniques, information and knowledge related to water resources management.
