Cummins in India, the leading manufacturer of engines, generators and related components and technologies, marks the completion of 50 years (1962-2012) of its operations in India on April 11, 2012.

From humble beginnings in the year 1962, when it started as a joint venture in India operating one manufacturing plant in Pune, in its 50th year today, Cummins has grown to incorporate eight legal entities (including affiliated) which collectively operate 20 manufacturing facilities and employ close to 14,000 individuals across as many as 200 locations in the country. These eight entities include Cummins India Ltd., Cummins Generator Technologies India Ltd., Cummins Technologies India Ltd., Cummins Research & Technology India Ltd., Fleetguard Filters Pvt. Ltd., Tata Cummins Ltd., Valvoline Cummins Ltd. and KPIT Cummins Infosystems Ltd.

Anant J. Talaulicar, Managing Director, Cummins Group in India said: “Completing fifty glorious years evokes a great sense of pride for not only all of us in India, but also the larger Cummins family across the world. With combined sales of $2.3B in 2011, our businesses in India continue to grow profitably at double digit rates. Cummins in India is the subcontinent‟s largest diesel and natural gas engine and generator manufacturer and with the Megasite project fully underway at Phaltan, we are strongly positioned to achieving our future growth targets of becoming a $7B group in five years. With a collective base of 14,000 employees, in four wholly or majority owned and four joint venture entities, we are privileged to have grown significantly as an employer of choice in our sector in the country.”

In keeping with Cummins‟ philosophy of Diversity in the workplace, the Company has also endeavored to realize a greater representation of women in its overall employee strength and has catapulted the percentage of women employees across its product businesses from 5% in 2005 to 25% in 2011. Cummins aims to further grow this number to 30% by the end of this year and to 50% by 2015.

Over the last five decades, Cummins has not only expanded its business but also played a significant role in corporate responsibility. The Cummins India Foundation (CIF), incorporated in 1990, channelizes the Company‟s CR initiatives towards serving and improving the communities in which its businesses are located. It focuses on higher education, energy and environment and local community infrastructure development.

Cummins has emerged as a key player in supporting technical education in the country. It helped set up the Cummins College of Engineering for Women (CCEW) in Pune and Nagpur and partners with various ITIs. At CCEW, the Mechanical Engineering course for women is the first and only one of its kind in India. Over the last two decades the College has established itself as a strong brand.

“We are very committed to our vision of „Making people‟s lives better by unleashing the Power of Cummins‟. We have been and aim to be a good citizen of India.
