Bauer pushes west African drilling

Bauer Resources Ghana (BRG), a subsidiary of Germany’s Bauer Resources, is working on a project being carried out by Bauer Technologies South Africa, which involves sinking 11 deep wells down to a depth of 650m in Senegal.

BRG is also progressing with deep, large-calibre drilling for well, hydrogeological exploration and dewatering borehole projects in Ghana.

For the project in Ghana, BRG purchased a RB 25 and a Klemm KR 806-2 rig – as well as compressors, four-wheel drive vehicles, service trucks and drilling equipment – to work alongside an existing RB 40 universal drilling rig.

Following the successful sinking of 9in (229mm) hammer bores down to a depth of 760m in 2010, Ghana operations now also include horizontal dewatering boreholes down to 130m, blast-hole drilling and underground supply drilling, in some cases as inclined bores, for mining companies.

BRG recently held talks with countries in the region, including Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Senegal and Sierra Leone.

The subsidiary’s work in west Africa is aided by collaborations with Bauer Maschinen, Bauer Spezialtiefbau, Bauer Technologies South Africa, the GWE Group and PRAKLA Bohrtechnik.
