Grand opening ceremony for bauma 2010

Grand opening ceremony for bauma 2010

  • Organiser expects another record-breaking event
  • High hopes in the sector for a change in sentiment and healthy order books

The 29th bauma, International Trade Fair for Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines, Mining Machines, Construction Vehicles and Construction Equipment was ceremoniously opened in the Court Church of All Saints (Allerheiligenhofkirche) and the Munich Residence Palace. On Monday the doors will open on this 555,000 square-metre exhibition in Munich-Riem. For seven days bauma will play host to trade visitors from all over the world.

In his opening address to an audience including guests-of-honour from politics and industry, Klaus Dittrich, Chairman & CEO of Messe München GmbH, praised the outstanding commitment of the exhibitors to bauma 2010. They were flying the flag, he said, with an amazing concentration of innovations and world premieres, and had made a tremendous organisational and financial effort in putting on their presentations. And all that was taking place despite the fact that 2009, globally speaking, had been a year when the general economic framework was not exactly rosy, and indeed the impact of the global economic crisis was still being felt in the current year. "A leading trade fair is always a barometer of current business sentiment, and so we, as the organiser of bauma, are very proud at this development, and it also gives us confidence. (…) The effort you have put into your presentations at the fair enhances not only the image of bauma, but also the image of Munich as an event venue," said Dittrich.

Dr Christof Kemmann, Chairman of the Fachverband Bau- und Baustoffmaschinen in the Verband deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau e.V. (VDMA) sees big challenges facing the sector in 2010: "But at least the companies are now beginning to feel solid ground under their feet again. So in this respect bauma has come at just the right moment. We are confident that the unique character of this event will help boost investment again."

With 3,150 exhibitors from 53 countries bauma 2010 has managed to once again increase its exhibitor figures. At the last event in 2007, a total of 3,002 exhibitors from 49 countries took part. A detailed breakdown of the figures for bauma 2010 will be given as part of the Main Press Conference in Hall C2 (bauma Forum) on Monday, 19 April at 12 midday.
