Case Study: InterACT Delivered Real-time Testing Data Directly to Client's Office for Collaborative Reservoir Evaluation

Quickly evaluate deepwater wells

Challenge
Quickly assess a deepwater gas prospect's commercial potential by evaluating well-testing data onshore in real time.

Solution
Used the DataLatch electrical wireline downhole recorder and transmitter system to log surface readouts. Transmitted data onshore using the InterACT real-time monitoring and data delivery system.

Results
Availability of real-time data allowed for quicker response and better decision making.

Quickly evaluate commercial potential
Reliance Industries Ltd. needed to perform a critical well test to evaluate the commerciality of a potential gas discovery in deepwater off the east coast of India. An extensive data acquisition program was planned and Reliance wanted the team's reservoir engineers in Mumbai to view the data in real time in collaboration with the offshore group.

Data transmitted onshore in real time
The DataLatch electrical wireline downhole recorder and transmitter system was used to capture surface readouts of pressures below the downhole drillstem test (DST) valve. For 116 h, throughout 15 flow periods, real-time data were transmitted from the wellsite to the Reliance reservoir engineering department onshore, using the InterACT real-time monitoring and data delivery system.

Data from the flowhead, separator, and surface gauge readouts were available for viewing in real time. Onshore experts used the system's Internet chat feature to communicate with the offshore operations team as they analyzed the data.

Quicker response and better decision making
This was the first time that Reliance attempted this type of data transfer for a DST. The availability of real-time data allowed for quicker response and better decision making. Reliance found the implementation of real-time data transfer very productive and plans to use this process again.
