Case launches CX245D, its most powerful minimum-swing excavator

Case has unveiled what it calls its most powerful and efficient minimum-swing radius excavator with the CX245D.

Case boosted digging force to 34,600 pounds and lifting capacity to 22,950 pounds compared to the previous model. The company says the CX245D is designed for confined job sites, such as road and bridge work, residential projects and urban construction.

The 60,000-pound excavator is powered by a 160-horsepower Tier 4 Final engine.

Along with more power, the CX245D has more standard features than previous Case excavators, the company says. Those features include Free Swing for improved craning, laying or lifting of offset loads; quick-access to engine and hydraulic oils; easy selector for ISO or SAE controls; and an adjustable operator station with heated air-ride seat and joystick controls. The cab is more spacious and designed to reduce noise and vibration. It features Bluetooth radio and a rearview camera with a 7-inch monitor that also gives real-time access to machine data.

Emissions are controlled by a combination of selective catalytic reduction and diesel oxidation catalyst technologies. The machine does not use a diesel particulate filter (DPF) or DPF regeneration.

The excavator’s Intelligent Hydraulic System reduces rpms by using gravity during boom down and swing and automatically shutting off the engine after a preset idle time. The system also reduces hydraulic power at swing start. A spool stroke control adjusts hydraulic pressure during digs and automatically reuses hydraulic fluid whenever possible to increase cycle times and efficiency, the company says.

For night work, an optional LED light package includes two front and two rear lights, a light on each side and a side-view camera.
