Antwerp,4 April 2011: Atlas Copco has announced the launch of a new, highly energy-efficient high-speed 3-stage turbo oil-free compressor at a press conference held today at the ComVac fair taking place at theHannoverMesse (Germany). The ZH 350+ is the most energy-efficient oil-free compressor ever built at Atlas Copco.

Superior Design of New Cat® C1.5 and C2.2 Engines Meets Tier 4 Final/Stage IIIA/Stage IIIB Emissions Requirements with Optimum Customer Value

The new Cat® three- and four-cylinder diesel engines, with displacements of 1.5 and 2.2 liters, allow Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to equip their products with fuel-efficient engines that meet EPA Tier 4 Final/EU Stage IIIA/Stage IIIB emissions requirements. Two new engines, the C1.5 and the C2.2, provide ratings from 33 - 61 horsepower (24 - 46 kW) and build on the solid features of their predecessors to assure reliable performance, low operating costs, durability and optimum utilization in a range of applications.
 

 
OEMs can use the new engines to neatly tailor installations in existing products with minimal changes in packaging, keeping change-over costs low, while providing end users with added benefits, such as lower oil consumption, reduced fuel consumption, improved cold starting, auto-idle capability, improved transient response and enhanced electronic control.
 
The new engines build on Caterpillar's advanced, world-class technology, including a base design that delivers high power and torque in a compact package, single-side servicing, plus a range of options that meet the individual OEM's requirements. The OEM's current products will require minimal design changes to accommodate the new engines, which add only a compactly sized after-treatment module that allows mounting flexibility.

For the new 1.5- and 2.2-liter engines, the after-treatment module will use active regeneration to periodically burn away the soot (particulate matter, or PM) that collects in a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The regeneration process, which maintains the DPF at peak efficiency, is transparent to the equipment operator and has no adverse affect on the machine's duty cycle. Periodic cleaning of ash residue from the DPF is required, but typically only at 3,000-hour intervals, which equates to several years of machine operation.

In addition, the careful design of the new engines effectively controls heat rejection, meaning that cooling requirements will not consume valuable space within the constraints of a small machine's overall layout. This advantage allows OEMs to maintain compact dimensions—critical in the small-machine market—while maintaining easy serviceability.  The new C1.5 and C2.2 not only are world-class in design, but are globally supported by the matchless parts and service resources of a world-class dealer network. The net result is maximum value for both the OEM and the end user.
