Cheap barrels for rainwater storage

Clackamas County Soil and Water Conservation District in partnership with Portland Purple Water is offering clean, used, food-grade barrels for harvesting rainwater and storing it to use during dry months.

These 55-gallon barrels come with instructions and a list of materials needed to easily convert the barrel into a rainwater harvesting system.

Order forms are available on the Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District website at www.conservationdistrict.org or call the district office at 503-655-3144.

Orders will be accepted until Nov. 17; send orders and payment to Clackamas County Soil and Water Conservation District, 221 Molalla Ave., Suite 102, Oregon City, OR 97045.

Pick up day will be Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clackamas County Soil and Water Conservation District office parking lot located at 221 Molalla Ave., Oregon City.

Why collect rainwater? Other than reducing your water bill, consider that rainwater harvesting is a practice that has been around for thousands of years. The technique has been used to collect both irrigation and drinking water in arid regions and in ancient times, before modern development.
