Punjab plans tie-up for water management

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government is considering preparing a master plan to develop water resources and irrigation management in the state to overcome the alarming situation of declining water resources under severe drought-like condition as well as excessive use of groundwater for agricultural purposes in Punjab.

A decision to this effect was taken by the Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal after going through a detailed power-point presentation made by Moshe Gablinger, water resources development expert of Israel-based TAHAL Consulting Engineers Ltd., along with its managing director, Asia Operation Avi Flor.

Expressing concern over the gravity of the situation, he impressed upon the need to adopt a statewide integrated approach in water resource management and asked his office to chalk out the modalities in this regard at the earliest so that this master plan could be prepared.

Avi Flor assured the chief minister that their company would provide water resource management for the entire state keeping in view the long-term perspective for the next 15-25 years and would also suggest remedial measures to tackle the menace of water logging, salinity, canal water seepage from the Rajasthan and Sirhind feeder canals, as the company has a proven technology to provide a permanent solution to these problems.

Combining Elegance and Reliability – Caterpillar Marine Powers Azimut Magellano 74 Yacht

A unique 2,000 nautical mile road show displays elegance of the Italian-designed Azimut yacht and the comfort of twin Cat C18 engines.

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems has been powering yachts and leisure crafts for decades, providing the propulsion force for thousands of the world’s finest boats.  However, if you found yourself in a port along the Mediterranean coast over the past couple of months, you may have spotted one of the industry’s newest luxury builds – the Azimut Magellano 74.  Combining the elegance of a Ken Freivokh designed yacht with the reliability of Cat® marine engines, the Magellano is the first in a new range of yachts designed to offer maximum navigational comfort and optional consumption efficiency regardless of speed or destination.

Azimut, one of the world’s finest yacht builders, recently hosted a once-in-a-lifetime trip for a select group of testers to navigate throughout the Mediterranean Sea on the Magellano 74.  Built to withstand all weather conditions and designed for the ultimate luxury during long cruises on board, the Magellano became the perfect tour guide for “My Voyage,” a 2,000 nautical mile road show designed to not only test the yacht’s endurance, but also introduce the world to this beautiful spectacle.

But while some of Italy’s best yacht testers were measuring performance and comfort above the deck, twin Cat marine engines were hard at work below the deck to safely power the journey.  The 74 foot (22.66 meter) yacht has a cruising speed of 24 knots thanks to the in-line 6, 4-stroke diesel Cat C18 engines both rated at 1015 mhp (847 bkW) at 2300 rpm. Built in Caterpillar’s innovative Marine Center of Excellence (MCOE) in Greenville, South Carolina, the C18 engines are renowned for proven performance and reliability in the pleasure craft industry.
Azimut chose the engines specifically due to Caterpillar’s reputation in the pleasure craft industry for long life cycle durability and outstanding sales and service support from local Cat dealer Compagnia Generale Trattori (CGT).  According to the vessel testers, the engines were untiring for the Magellano’s journey and provided the needed torque to power the boat from its start in November from Marina di Varazze, Italy.

The Voyage encompassed the western part of the Mediterranean in late 2009 including Spain, Tunisia, Malta, and Italy.  Visit the Azimut website for more details about the Magellano, including a blog from a photojournalist sharing life on board throughout the unique journey.
